(In French with English subtitles)
Directed by Florence Tissot and Sylvie Tissot, Je ne suis pas féministe, mais (52 minutes, 2015) is a portrait of Christine Delphy. A feminist writer, sociologist and theorist, Delphy (born in 1941) is a major figure of the feminist second wave in France. She was a co-founder of the Mouvement de libération des femmes (MLF) in 1970, and the co-founder, with Simone de Beauvoir, of the journal Nouvelles questions féministes. In the French headscarf wars during the past fifteen years, Delphy has been a vocal supporter and feminist theorist of the rights of Muslim women to dress as they wish. Her most recent book Separate and Dominate was released in English by Verso in June 2015, and offers a critique of the criminalization of Islam in the name of feminism.
Followed by a roundtable discussion on Christine Delphy’s work and activism
