Dr. Mazower, Ira D. Wallach Professor of History at Columbia University, will explore his experiences as a historian, researching and writing the history of his own family and thinking, along the way, both about how we trace such histories, through what kinds of remains and artefacts, and in particular, how this specific experience of participation in, and allegiance to, the Bund, shaped the lives of two generations of Russian Jews on both sides of the Iron Curtain in the first half of the twentieth century.
Mark Mazower is Ira D. Wallach professor of history at Columbia University and the founding director of the university’s new Institute for Ideas and Imagination in Paris. He is the author of books on modern Greek and European history and he comments regularly on international affairs for the Financial Times among others. He was born in London.
