Jeanne Etelain

Ph.D. candidate in French

Jeanne Etelain is a PhD Student in the Department of French Literature, Thought and Culture at NYU. Her research interests include contemporary philosophy, environmental humanities, and aesthetics. Under the supervision of Emily Apter and Anne Sauvagnargues, her works focuses on the concept of zone as a new way of perceiving and understanding space. Examining cross-media materials, she engages with authors such as Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, or Giorgio Agamben. She recently published an article entitled “Qu’appelle-t-on zone? A la recherche d’un concept manqué” in Les Temps modernes and regularly presents papers at conferences including the MLA and the CFFS. Before coming to NYU, Jeanne Etelain graduated in philosophy from l’Université Paris-Ouest-Nanterre-La-Défense under the supervision of Peter Szendy and worked as an Assistant linguistique for the French Government in Saint-Paul (MN). At NYU, she is coordinator for the Francophone Community Exchange and co-organizer of the French Department Reading Group. She is also editor for the international journal of philosophy La Deleuziana.
