For the next meeting of the Marxism Working Group, we revisit the Combahee River Collective Statement (1977), a landmark in Black feminist thought, alongside documents from the 1975 Socialist Feminist Conference in Yellow Springs, Ohio, mentioned in the CRC Statement. The documents include statements from caucuses at the conference—Third World, Anti-Imperialist, Lesbian, and Wages for Housework—and transcripts of speeches by Michelle Russell and Barbara Dudley. These texts help us think through the sometimes difficult transition of US socialist feminism from an analytic to a political program, and to read the CRC Statement in broader context. The discussion will be facilitated by Cindy Gao, Ph.D. candidate in American Studies at NYU.
To RSVP and to receive copies of the readings, e-mail the Marxism Working Group organizers.
