Please join us for the Annual Fales Lecture with Alexandra Gillespie (University of Toronto), which will take place on Wednesday April 7th at 6pm. Professor Gillespie’s talk is titled “The Whiteness of the Book,” and it will reconsider some of the ethno-nationalist and modern-triumphalist discourses in which book historical research is embedded. All members of our English Department community are warmly invited.
Alexandra Gillespie is Principal of the University of Toronto Mississauga, Vice-President of the University of Toronto, and Professor of English and Medieval Studies. Her research is concerned with medieval and early modern texts and books. Gillespie is especially interested in the shift from manuscript to print, the relationship between book history, literary criticism, and literary theory; the global development of early book technologies; and digital and non-destructive scientific approaches to the study of premodern books.
Live closed captioning will be available.
