Before coming to NYU, Toshiko taught Japanese language at Japan Society, United Nations, and Phillips Exeter Academy. Additionally, she has taught college-level Japanese language courses at The New School, Columbia University, and Fordham University. Toshiko is particularly passionate about second language acquisition. In addition to her teaching and service activities at the university level, she has been actively involved in Japanese Studies at The Japan Society; she has taught language courses to working professionals.
