PREREQUISITE: TEST SCORE GREATER OR EQUAL 3302.02, OR EAST-UA 201, OR EAST-UA 9201, ORCHIN-SHU 101, OR CHIN-SHU 101S, OR CHIN-SHU 101S2.

If you can speak in Mandarin Chinese about everyday life situations but can not read and write at the same level, you should consult with Xiaoxiao Jiao, Chinese Language Coordinator, at xxj1@nyu.edu before enrolling in the course. 3. Designed to develop and reinforce language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing as it relates to everyday life situations. The objectives are: to master the Chinese phonetic system (pinyin and tones) with satisfactory pronunciation; to understand the construction of commonly used Chinese Characters (both simplified and traditional) and learn to write them correctly; to understand and use correctly basic Chinese grammar and sentence structures; to build up essential vocabulary; to read and write level appropriate passages; to become acquainted with aspects of Chinese culture and society related to the course materials.
