Novelist Kiran Desai is the author of The Inheritance of Loss, winner of the Man Booker Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Fiction Award, and Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard. She is teaching this fall at the NYU Graduate Creative Writing Program.
Maaza Mengiste’s debut novel, Beneath the Lion's Gaze, was selected by the Guardian as one of the 10 best contemporary African books and named one of the best books of 2010 by Christian Science Monitor, Boston Globe and other publications. Her second novel is The Shadow King (W. W. Norton, September 2019). She is an alum of the NYU Graduate Creative Writing Program, where she also teaches.
