Under the terms of a reciprocal agreement signed in 2008, Ph.D. students in the Department of Comparative Literature at NYU are able to attend the University of Tokyo, Komaba as visiting students. Students can apply for Special Auditor status, which allows them to take graduate courses at UTokyo for degree credit at NYU, or Special Research Students, which allows them to conduct research under the guidance of a faculty member without receiving degree credit. The term of the visiting student residence can be one semester (April to August or September to March) or one year (April to March or September to August) in accordance with the UTokyo academic calendar.
Ph.D. Exchange Program - University of Tokyo
All tuition and admission fees will be waived for students participating in the exchange under the current agreement. However, all personal expenses, including room and board, international and domestic travel, and textbooks and supplies will be at the responsibility of the exchange student. Exchange students will also be responsible for meeting UTokyo's minimum health insurance requirements and for obtaining a student visa with assistance from the host university.
Current doctoral students in NYU Comparative Literature will receive an email twice a year from the Graduate Administrative Aide, Deirdre Collins at drc400@nyu.edu, with information about application materials and deadlines. All applications must be reviewed and approved by UTokyo.
