Emerging out of NYU’s Certificate Program in Poetics and Theory, this reading group seeks to engage with texts from the fields of theory, poetics, and the teratological spaces in between. Collaboratively organized by Poetics and Theory students, this year’s theme is “perversion,” broadly understood. How has “perversion” come to signify a range of ways for engaging with power, discourse, and disciplines? What does perversion do to various epistemic, political, and sexual apparatuses by twisting them from their original courses?
Please join us for our first meeting at 6:30PM on October 31st as we read selections from Freud’s Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality and W.H. Auden’s “In Memory of Sigmund Freud.” We will meet in room 222 at 19 University Place and refreshments will be provided. All are welcome.
