Ali Benmakhlouf

Ali Benmakhlouf is Professor of Philosophy at Paris East Créteil University and senior member of the University Institute of France. He is a specialist in medieval Islamic philosophy, political theory, and Frege. He is editor of the Arabic edition of The Dictionary of Untranslatables: A Philosophical Lexicon, and the author most recently of Pourquoi lire les philosophes Arabes? (Albin Michel, 2015), Selon la raison (DK Éditions, 2014), and L'identité, une fable philosophique (PUF, 2011).

Rebecca Comay

Rebecca Comay is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy, the Center of Comparative Literature, and the Program in Literature and Critical Theory at the University of Toronto, where she is also affiliated with the Department of German, the Centre for Jewish Studies, and the Faculty of Architecture. She has published widely on nineteenth and twentieth century continental philosophy, psychoanalysis, literature, and contemporary art. Recent books include Mourning Sickness: Hegel and the French Revolution (Stanford, 2011) and (with Frank Ruda), The Dash – the Other Side of Absolute Knowing (MIT, forthcoming 2017). She is currently working on Deadlines, a book on the strange temporality of the deadline (political, psychoanalytic, theological, literary, environmental, and other sorts), as well as a book on the destruction of images, called Dictionary of Indestructibles.

Kevin McLaughlin was named Dean of the Faculty in 2011. He has been the recipient of research grants and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Fulbright Program and the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst. He is the author of three books, Writing in Parts: Imitation and Exchange in 19th-Century Literature (Stanford UP, 1995); Paperwork: Literature and Mass Mediacy in the Age of Paper (U of Penn P, 2005); and Poetic Force: Poetry after Kant (Stanford UP, 2014). McLaughlin is also the co-translator with Howard Eiland of Walter Benjamin's Arcades Project (Harvard UP, 1999).

Renata Salecl

Renata Salecl is philosopher and sociologist. She is Professor of Psychology and Psychoanalysis of Law at the School of Law, Birkbeck College, University of London and Senior Researcher at the Institute of Criminology at the faculty of Law in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She is also Recurring Visiting Professor at Cardozo School of Law in New York. Her last book Tyranny of Choice (Profile Books 2010) has been translated into 15 languages and was featured at TED Global. Her previous books include: The Spoils of Freedom (Routledge 1994), (Per)versions of Love and Hate (Verso, 1998), and On Anxiety (Routledge 2004).

Shaden Tageldin

Shaden M. Tageldin is Associate Professor of Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature and Director of the African Studies Initiative at the University of Minnesota. She is the author of Disarming Words: Empire and the Seductions of Translation in Egypt (University of California Press, 2011), which was awarded an Honorable Mention for the Harry Levin Prize of the American Comparative Literature Association. Tageldin’s work in comparative literature, empire and postcolonial studies, and critical translation theory has appeared or is forthcoming in, among other venues, Comparative Literature Studies, International Journal of Middle East Studies, Journal of Arabic Literature, Journal of Historical Sociology, Philological Encounters, and PMLA, as well as in the edited volumes Futures of Comparative Literature, The Oxford History of the Novel in English: The Novel in Africa and the Caribbean since 1950, and Teaching Translation: Programs, Courses, Pedagogies. She currently holds an American Council of Learned Societies Burkhardt Fellowship at the Kluge Center of the Library of Congress, where she is at work on a book titled Toward a Transcontinental Theory of Modern Comparative Literature.
