New York University and the Department of Chemistry will provide support to eligible Chemistry Graduate Students for travel to scientific meetings and conferences through the GSAS Dean’s Student Travel Grant and the Departmental Graduate Student Travel Award. The GSAS travel grant program provides up to $500.
Detailed information about the Dean's grant program and the application be found by visiting the Dean's Student Travel Grant Program page. The GSAS travel grant is independent of the Department award. The graduate student is responsible for applying for the GSAS grant according to the GSAS policies and deadlines.
If the GSAS travel grant is not sufficient for travel to and accommodations at the meeting, the Department will provide additional support through the Graduate Student Travel Award. Application for a GSAS travel grant and matching funds from the research advisor, equal to the Department award, are required. The maximum amount of each Departmental Travel Award is $400 or the matching amount from the advisor, whichever is smaller. For example, a student can receive the maximum of $500 from the GSAS grant and the maximum $400 from the Department Travel Award if the advisor provides $400 in matching funds, totaling $1300.
The student must submit a completed GSAS Graduate Student Travel Award Application and all required documentation to the Department Graduate Program Administrator prior to reimbursement to allow time for review and budgetary approval. The department will notify the applicant of approval and of the award amount. Students are required to submit documentation for the travel-related expenses within two weeks after completion of the travel. Graduate students are eligible for a maximum of two Departmental Travel Awards during their graduate career.
You will have 12 days after the GSAS deadline to submit and apply to the departmental travel award.
Decisions will be made within a week of the deadline of each submission window.
