Organic chemistry at NYU is grounded in an understanding of chemical bonding, stereochemistry, the relationship between structure and reactivity, and the nature of intermolecular interactions that can affect structure. New reactions, catalysts, and synthetic strategies spring from this strong foundation. Our faculty continue to push back frontiers of chemical reactivity by discovering new and useful reactions, and applying them to the total synthesis of natural products and medicinally important compounds. Physical organic chemistry and organic synthesis are also being applied to solve problems in several area departmental areas of interest, including materials chemistry, nanoscience, and chemical biology.
