The NYU Department of Chemistry has hosted the ACS Science Olympiad Exam for many years. On Saturday, March 4, 2017, graduate student Michael Brady proctored the exam, which is given by local sections of the ACS around the country. Local competitions are conducted in order to select nominees for the national exam. In addition to selecting nominees, the local competitions also serve to encourage students to excel in chemistry. Both the local and national competitions provide a forum for interactions between students, teachers, and other chemists. Often, local sections recognize their top students with monetary or other awards.
Michael is conducting his doctoral research in the Buccella Lab. In addition to pursuinghis scientific research, he enjoys participating in community service and outreach projects like the Olympiad. Michael has trained undergraduate researchers in the lab, hosted seminar speaker lunches, participates regularly in the recruitment of prospective students, and served a year as President of the NYU Department of Chemistry Graduate Student Organization.
Thanks to Michael Brady for his tireless contribution to the chemistry community!
