Students interested in applying for the Ph.D. degree should have an excellent undergraduate preparation in chemistry or related fields. The department does not require nor consider the general GRE. The department requires three letters of recommendation with each application for graduate school. In addition, an official transcript with GPA must be submitted with the application. NYU requires all international applicants to provide a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score.
Prospective students are not required to contact individual faculty members as part of the application purposes. However, we strongly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the research interests of individual faculty members. If you are interested in particular research groups, we encourage you to list these groups in your application.
As part of the application to the Ph.D. or M.S. program in Chemistry, the department encourages you to submit a short video statement. This is an optional part of your application and is not required. Please read the detailed instructions on the GSAS Application Instructions - Video Requirements webpage.
