The Margaret and Herman Sokol Fellowship
The duration of the Sokol fellowship(s) will be 12 months, from September 1, 2020 through August 31, 2021.  The award amount will be $37,000.  Students enrolled in their  fourth  or  fifth  year  of  graduate  study  (as  of  September  1,  2020)  are  eligible.  The fellowship has no citizenship requirements.  The award recipient will be named the  Margaret  and  Herman  Sokol  Graduate  Student  Fellow  in  Chemistry  and  is  required  to  acknowledge  “The  Margaret  and  Herman  Sokol  Fellowship”  in  any publications and presentations resulting from the fellowship support.

The Margaret Strauss Kramer Fellowship
The duration of the Kramer fellowships will be 12 months, from September 1, 2020 through August 31, 2021. Kramer Fellowships will be awarded only to students who simultaneously receive research assistantship (RA) support from their advisor equal to 50% of the customary RA stipend in the Department.  Kramer Fellowship funding is contingent on continual RA support throughout the entire year of the award.  The fellowship  will  be  discontinued  if  RA  funds  are  no  longer  available.  Last  year,  the  combined  support  amounted  to  ~$38,000  during  the  2019/20120 academic  year.  In  addition,  the  Kramer Fellowship will provide $5,000 to be used for materials and supplies, which will  be  deposited  in  the  research  advisor's  unrestricted  account.    Although  these  funds  are  unrestricted,  the  intention  is  that  they  will  be  used  for  materials  and supplies associated with the Kramer Fellow's education.  Students enrolled in their third to fifth year of graduate study are eligible.  Please note that only U.S. citizens are  eligible  for  the  Kramer  Fellowship.    Each  award  recipient  will  be  named  the  Margaret  Strauss  Kramer  Graduate  Student  Fellow  in  Chemistry  and  is  required  to acknowledge  “The  Margaret  Strauss  Kramer  Fellowship”  in  any  publications  and  presentations resulting from the fellowship support.

The Janice A. Cutler Graduate Fellowship
The Janice A. Cutler Graduate Fellowship, established in 2016, was named for the late Janice Cutler Zagor.  Dr. Cutler was an alumna of New York University, earning her doctorate in physical chemistry in 1946.  During her long career, she notably developed an innovative science curriculum called COPES.  Dr. Cutler advised a generation of science majors as the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Chemistry from 1988-2008.  This fellowship is awarded to a prospective PhD student prior to matriculation.  Eligible candidates are evaluated by the Director of Graduate Studies and the Admissions Committee during the PhD application process.

Ted Keusseff Fellowship

A dissertation writing fellowship. These awards carry a stipend and responsibilities identical to those of the standard Dean’s Dissertation Fellowship. Two of these are awarded annually to students in Chemistry and Physics.

Thomas J. Moore Fellowship

A dissertation writing fellowship. These awards carry a stipend and responsibilities identical to those of the standard Dean’s Dissertation Fellowship. One of these is awarded annually to a student in Physical Chemistry or Physics.

Thomas N. Jenkins Fellowship

A dissertation writing fellowship. These awards carry a stipend and responsibilities identical to those of the standard Dean’s Dissertation Fellowship. One of these is awarded every other year. It will be rotated among Physics, Chemistry and Neural Science.
