Reinhard Wimmer, Professor of Chemistry and Bioscience at Aalborg University in Denmark, will deliver a seminar entitled, "The many modes of action of calmodulinopathies – some less obvious cases." Hosted by Alexej Jerschow.

Abstract: Calmodulin is the central calcium signaling protein in the human body. It is an extremely conserved protein. Only recently, persons with calmodulin mutations were discovered in families with a history of cardiac arrhythmia. Since then, more patients with mutations in calmodulin have been discovered, but explaining the mechanism of action of mutated calmodulin is not at all straightforward. The talk will describe investigations into structure and dynamics of three different calmodulin variants and what they tell us about possible mechanisms of action.
