Abstract: Can noncovalent interactions be adequate for creating materials that represent a viable (and sustainable) alternative to covalent systems? We will describe our work on robust yet adaptive water-based noncovalent materials - supramolecular membranes for water purification. We will also present our work on organic nanocrystals (ONCs) self-assembled in aqueous media, and on ONC-based materials - free-standing macroscopic films constructed from small molecules. These systems were utilized as NLO materials, separation membranes, electrodes, and conductive colorants.
