New York University's Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) received a $14.4 million 6-year grant from the National Science Foundation to continue and expand its inaugural MRSEC in 2008, effectively doubling its size. The MRSEC is spearheaded by faculty from the Molecular Design Institute in the NYU Department of Chemistry and Center for Soft Matter Research in the NYU
Department of Physics. The multi-investigator, interdisciplinary venture, led by Center Director Michael D. Ward (NYU Chemistry) and Center Associate Director
David Grier (NYU

Physics), was announced by the NSF on February 18, 2015 (click here) as one of 24 such centers receiving funding. The NYU MRSEC revolves around two flagship interdisciplinary groups -
Random Organization of Disordered Materials, led by
Paul Chaikin and
David Pine, and
Molecular Crystal Growth Mechanisms, led by
Bart Kahr and
Mark Tuckerman, consisting of more than twenty faculty investigators the NYU science and engineering units. More on the NYU MRSEC can be found in NYU Today (
