Alumnus James R. Lupski Receives the 2014 EMGS Award

NYU Chemistry alumnus James R. Lupski (pictured left) is the recipient of the 2014 EMGS Award, conferred by the Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics Society.  Dr. Lupski was recognized for his seminal contributions to a number of different research areas, from basic DNA chemistry and mutation through the emergence of early DNA sequencing, to studies of genomic instability and rearrangements and on to the current state of whole genome and exome sequence analysis, disease-related mutations, and copy number variants (CNVs)

Jim Lupski (pictured right) is an NYU alumnus many times over.  He earned his bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Biology in 1979, a master's degree in Biochemistry in 1983, and a Ph.D in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 1984.  In addition, he received an MD from the NYU School of Medicine, and he even hung around for a postdoc at NYU after earning his medical degree.  He conducted his undergraduate research in the laboratory of Professor Emeritus David Schuster, who was also a member of his doctoral committee.  Dr. Lupski currently holds the Cullen Endowed Chair in Molecular Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine, where is also a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics.  Read his profile on the Baylor website to learn more about his accomplishments and his research.  Kudos to Jim Lupski, and to his mentor, David Schuster!
