Located in the heart of Greenwich Village on the island of Manhattan, the Department of Biology has lead a revolution in laboratory design. Pioneering the open laboratory concept, NYU Biology has set a standard for other departments to follow. Depending on the building, two to five labs share a large, open lab with benches back to back throughout the space. Equipment storage and supports rooms form a ring around this central lab area. Walls of windows and open shelving allow maximum visibility across the lab space, encouraging the types of collaborations that the Department of Biology is known for.
