Does the SURP provide housing, travel reimbursement, meal plan, and/or living expenses?
Students accepted to the SURP program will be provided with housing, living expenses for the summer, a meal plan and reimbursement for travel to non-NYU students.
What materials will I need for my application?
The SURP application includes the online application form available in late January and the submission of supplementary materials including a personal statement (no longer than 500 words), your curriculum vitae, an electronic copy of your unofficial transcript, and 2 letters of reference.
What are the requirements for applying to SURP?
Please submit your required application documents through the online application form linked in the Applying to SURP site.
How should I send my application documents (personal statement, unofficial transcript, CV/Resume)?
Please submit your required application documents through the online application form.
Can I have my letters of reference sent electronically directly from my recommenders?
It is highly recommended that the applicant follow the online application form to send letter of recommendation requests to each reference for quick processing. If this isn't possible, each reference should email a recommendation to: surp.biology@nyu.edu following the format "SURP20xx_<last name>_<first name>_Recommendation-Letter". Please make sure that they indicate your name, and their own contact information within the email.
My recommender has only given me a signed hard copy of my recommendation, but the instructions on the application indicate the recommendation should be completed through the online application. Can I still mail in the recommendation?
Yes; however please be aware that any hard copies of recommendations will not be read or processed as quickly as the email versions.
From whom should I request recommendations?
Your letters of recommendation should be from someone who can comment on your motivation and academic background.
Should I also send a hard copy of my application materials in addition to the information that was requested to be submitted electronically?
No, submission electronically is the preferred method of submission.
I am a first year student with sophomore standing due to AP credits or other pre-college work. Am I eligible for the program?
Probably not. Your application will be much stronger next year.
When are applicants generally notified about their acceptance or non-acceptance?
Applicants will be notified by mid April.
Is the listed start or end date of the program flexible?
No
