The generosity of the Mitra family's donation has allowed the Department to establish an annual Mitra lecture,
where a world-leader in the field of chromatin biology is invited to give a seminar to the Biology Department.
This seminar series honors Professor Mitra's legacy to our understanding of chromatin and transposable elements.
The Mitra family's donation is also being used to fund Mitra fellowships that provide a stipend for NYU undergraduates
from under-represented groups in science to join NYU Biology research labs as part of our NSF-Simons Foundation
Summer Undergraduate Research Program, and then to stay in those research labs for the following academic year.
These fellowships honor Professor Mitra's devotion and dedication to undergraduate education.
