The Graduate Women in Science (GWinS) organization hosted a compelling talk by Dr. Niki Athanasiadou as part of the Spring 2018 Speaker Series. Dr. Athanasiadou has held a variety of research scientist positions studying topics ranging from molecular biology to population health. In this talk, she discusses the results of her recent study which interprets actual postdoc salaries and the associated job titles at U.S. public institutions. This event was funded by GSAS and the Dean for Science and recorded by the Biology Department. Research presented was under peer review at the time of the talk and the manuscript pre-print for it can be found at: www.biorxiv.org/content/early/2017/12/03/227694

Kris Gunsalus talks about her latest Cell paper on gene networks in a complex tissue. High-content screening for gene profiling has generally been limited to single cells. Here, we explore an alternative approach—profiling gene function by analyzing effects of gene knockdowns on the architecture of a complex tissue in a multicellular organism.
