An account called PondLife—run by Carlton Lab’s Sally Warring, and profiled recently in The Atlantic—offers a visually stunning account of the microscopic organisms that live in urban bodies of water.
“There’s a lot of joy in doing this,” Warring says. “I think that often in a lot of fields, in a lot of sciences particularly, when people are going through school, the adventure and the wonder and all that stuff is kind of lost—the reasons you become a scientist in the first place.”
