Julia Maritz from the Carlton lab published a review as a front cover article in the July issue of Trends in Parasitology. The invited review, “What is the importance of zoonotic trichomonads for human health?”, summarizes current knowledge concerning the ability of trichomonads — common parasites of vertebrate and invertebrate species — to flip-flop between human, pet and domestic animal hosts. Julia and her co-authors from Newcastle University and the University of the Pacific explain how comparative genomics is being used to investigate the features of a “zoonotic” lifestyle.
