Dr. Kris Gunsalus and research scientist Hin Hark Gan have developed a computational method for analyzing the interactions of miRNAs with their mRNA targets in atomic detail. Their paper, “Tertiary structure-based analysis of microRNA-target interactions,” was published recently in RNA, and showed that the Argonaute protein bound to the guide miRNA strand influences the miRNA’s binding affinity and activity. This finding could help researchers determine more precisely the rules of mRNA site recognition by miRNAs.
The paper will appear in the April 1, 2013 issue of RNA, and is already available online here .
