The Department of Art History & Urban Design and Architecture Studies invites you to attend our upcoming lecture by Amy Whitaker.
In this lecture, Professor Amy Whitaker, from NYU Steinhardt's Visual Arts Administration program, will talk about NFTs in the context of conceptual artistic practice and economic sustainability for artists, drawing on her 2023 book The Story of NFTs: Artists, Technology, and Democracy, co-authored with Nora Burnett Abrams, the Mark G. Falcone Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver and an alumna of NYU's Institute of Fine Arts. Whitaker will share contemporary artists' engagement with NFTs as a conceptual medium, alongside her own research on fractional equity in art, and the ways in which art historical and financial analysis can be combined to inspire new proposals for artists' economic sustainability in the age of blockchain and the metaverse.
