As a fieldwork and practice-based way of thinking and acting in the world, Anthropology encourages every major to consider at least one internship during their time in the program.
Internships may be taken for up to four credits under the supervision of a faculty member who agrees to assist in measuring the student’s progress, under the proviso that internships and independent studies amount to no more than 8 credits towards the major.
A typical agreement will involve a student writing a ten-page, double-spaced scholarly paper on ideas and issues around their internship experience.
Independent studies, like internships, are normally undertaken in close collaboration with a faculty member with whom the student has already taken at least one course, and who agrees to work with a student on what is typically a twenty-page, double-spaced paper on a given topic.
Credit from internships and independent studies do not count towards the Minor in Anthropology.
