Maria's research examines how public rituals of mourning in Bulgaria scaffold new processes of nationality building. She explores how community medias create continuous spaces of identity production within, and outside of, systemic cultural oppression. Her interests also include state propaganda, commodity advertising, reality television, architecture history, and film theory.
