Alejandro Jaramillo
Alejandro Jaramillo (https://www.alejh.com/) received his BA in Social Anthropology at Universidad de Los Andes, Bogotá, and minored in philosophy. He later went on to obtain a Masters degree in Visual and Media Anthropology from Freie Universität Berlin. He has extensive fieldwork experience working in the Darién region of Colombia and Panama documenting the cultural trayectories and histories of agricultural commodities: for his master’s dissertation he focused on coconuts as traded by the Gunadule and then later on was hired as a consultant to investigate the ties that Zenu Indigenous and Afrocolombian communities sustain surrounding cacao production. His fieldwork experiences have informed his photography and filmmaking, for which he has had three mayor solo exhibitions in Colombia and multiple international screenings of his ethnographically informed films. He freelances as a video editor, photo and videojournalist with media outlets, such as The New York Times, Univision, Voice of America, OkayAfrica, TRT World, among others.
