"The Occidental Tourist and the Napo Quichua: Ecotourism and Fantasies of Alterity in the Amazon"

Veronica Davidov
Veronica is working on several projects within the framework of environmental anthropology and political ecology. Her current research focuses on how natural resources are constructed and contested in global and local arenas, with a particular focus on oil extraction and mining. Her previous research focused on indigenous ecotourism in Ecuador; now she studies both extraction and conservation industries as sites of nature valuation. She is continuing research in Ecuador, and last year she started a new project on indigenous eco-cosmologies and resource extraction in the Republic of Karelia (Russia). Her other research interests include indigenous politics, historical fantasies of alterity, visual anthropology, and ideologies of "sustainable development."
