Mediating Self and Community: Membership, Sociality, and Communicative Practives in Peruvian Migration to the US

Ulla Berg
Ulla is currently working on turning her dissertation on communicative practices and everyday life in the context of transnational migration between Peru and the US into a book manuscript. In addition, she is the co-editor of a forthcoming special issue of the journal Identities: Global Studies in Culture and Power on Transnational Citizenship Across the Americas. Her previous written work appear in various journals including Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Latin American Perspectives, Latino Studies, Política Internacional, and the online journal e-misférica. She is co-editor with Karsten Paerregaard of El Quinto Suyo: Transnacionalidad y Formaciones Diasporicas en la Migración Peruana (IEP, 2005) and has also co-edited special issues of the journals e-misférica (2006) and Latin American Perspectives (2010). At Rutgers, she teaches courses on anthropology of media, anthropology of personhood, Latinos and Migration, Latino Ethnography, and research methods.
