Anthropology Abroad
Fieldwork is central to how anthropologists think, work, and communicate. The Department of Anthropology therefore encourages every student to spend time outside New York, to learn a new language, and to take advantage of the resources offered by your colleagues around the world.
While our majors spread out across NYU’s global network, archaeologists will find particularly strong course offerings in Tel Aviv (with fall-semester students eligible for up to $12,000 in scholarship funding); biological anthropologists have access to excellent coursework offered by Global Public Health; cultural and linguistic anthropologists will find clusters of courses in Berlin, Buenos Aires, Florence, London, Paris, Prague, and Sydney.
The first step is to visit the Office of Global Programs where you will find information on all of NYU’s campuses, as well as access to foreign universities outside the NYU network.
Anthropology courses offered at NYU Global sites are indicated below. These courses are designed to draw from and sharpen student experiences in the global setting; they count toward the anthropology major and minor, but are also designed to be accessible and appealing to non-majors. All courses are in English unless otherwise indicated.
We encourage all students to explore the funding opportunities offered for NYU study abroad.
