My name is Delia, and I am the new student worker at Deutsches Haus at NYU.
I am originally from northern Mississippi, just south of Memphis, Tennessee. Since I was a child, my family hosted exchange students from around the world. This, I believe, sparked my curiosity for different cultures.
For my freshman year at NYU, I studied in Florence, Italy. For my junior year, I studied in Berlin, Germany. The remaining two years are here in New York City. I am now a senior at NYU with a major in Global Liberal Studies with a concentration in histories, philosophies and world views and a minor in German.
In the second semester of my year abroad in Berlin, I interned in the political education department at the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial. My work at the memorial led me to the topic of my Bachelor’s thesis, which will be focused around the GDR. The history of German culture and society is very interesting to me, but even more so, I enjoy struggling through the German language. Working here at Deutsches Haus will be an excellent opportunity to keep me connected to a culture I cherish deeply and to a place I soon hope to return.
