M.A. in French Studies
Rhianna Quiroga is a proud first-generation graduate from the University of Texas at Austin (2017-2020) with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Global Studies. During her undergraduate studies, Rhianna traveled to France twice: she received the Board of Trustee’s Scholarship to study European politics and political science at the Université de Strasbourg in the summer (2017) and later returned to explore the nuances of the Transatlantic alliance between the U.S. and France for an exchange semester at Sciences Po Paris in Reims (2019).
Her undergraduate capstone focused on a theoretical framework with a comparative and exploratory approach. Her research aimed to analyze the social and political impacts war and revolution have on the progression of gender policy and women’s roles in the public sphere.
After graduating from UT in May 2020, Rhianna was selected to partake in the Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF) for the 2020-2021 academic year. She would implement cultural and educational goals promoted by the French Ministry of Education in order to advance the fluency and understanding of English. Considering the turbulent events of 2020, Rhianna persevered and took the big jump and moved to Paris to teach in three schools within the Académie de Versailles.
Alongside her teachings, she served as the Communications and Legislative Aide to a Texas Democrat in the Texas House of Representatives. Her highlight of the year was mentoring a Ugandan Refugee woman with France Terre d’Asile, resulting in a newfound friendship.
At NYU, Rhianna is honored to be a recipient of the GSAS Dean’s Master’s Scholarship. She aspires to further explore race and gender narratives in the social and political spheres of diversified France and the political and cultural Transatlantic alliance between the U.S. and France. Upon completing the MA, Rhianna strives to pursue a career dedicated to enhancing the political and cultural partnership between the U.S. and France through media coverage for an international outlet.
