Add a link

To setup an external link

  1. Highlight the text you want to be the link
  2. Click on Hyperlink icon(Chain) on the Edit bar
  3. Type in, or copy & paste the URL in the Path fields.
  4. Type in alternative text in the Alt Text field
  5. You can specify where to open the link by using the Target option.
  6. Click Done button (check mark) to save your progress.

To set up an internal link to a page

  1. Highlight the text you want to be the link
  2. Click on the Hyperlink icon (Chain) on the Edit bar.
  3. Click on the Path Picker icon right next to the Path fields.

    Note: Please make sure you use the Path Picker to select the page you want to link to. The Path Picker will allow the system to save the link reference information at the back end and can automatically update the page URL when the linked page is moved to another location.

  4. Navigate and then click on the thumbnail icon to select the page you want to link to. The page you want to select should highlight in bright blue if you have selected it properly.
  5. Type in an alternative text in the Alt Text field.
  6. You can specify where to open the link by using the Target option. We recommend opening the internal link within the same window by selecting Same Tab.
  7. Click the Done button (check mark) to save your progress.

To setup internal link to an anchor

Note: You will need an anchor before you can link to it, read How to create an anchor? for more information.

  1. Highlight the text you want to be the link.
  2. Click on Hyperlink icon (Chain) on the Edit bar.
    • If you link to an anchor within the same page:
      • In the Path field, type in "#" plus the name of the anchor. For example, if the anchor name is "NameofAnchor" it should look like this in the Path field: "#NameofAnchor" (without the quotes)
    • If you link to an anchor in another page:
      • Read above on how to link to another page.
      • In the Path field, type in "#" plus the name of the anchor immediately after the URL. For example, the Path field could look like this: "......article.html#NameofAnchor"
  3. Click Done button (check mark) to save your progress.

To setup an email link

  1. Highlight the text you want to be the link
  2. Click on Hyperlink icon (Chain) on the Edit bar
  3. In the Path field, type in "mailto:" plus the email address, so it should look like this: "mailto:example@nyu.edu" (without the quotes)
  4. Click Done button (check mark) to save your progress.

To set up a link to an asset

  1. Highlight the text you want to be the link
  2. Click on the Hyperlink icon (Chain) on the Edit bar.
  3. Click on the Path Picker icon right next to the Path fields.
    Note: Please make sure you use the Path Picker to select the asset you want to link to. The Path Picker will allow the system to save the link reference information at the back end and can automatically update the page URL when the linked page is moved to another location.

  4. Navigate and then select the asset you want to link to.
  5. Type in an alternative text in the Alt Text field.
  6. You can specify where to open the link by using the Target option. We recommend opening the internal link within the same window by selecting Same Tab.
  7. Click the Done button (checkmark) to save your progress.

To set up a link to the faculty profile

Before you begin, you will need to know the faculty profile path that you want to link to. To obtain that, you can simply navigate to the A&S faculty directory and open/edit the faculty profile that you want to link to. In the browser URL address field, copy the last portion of the URL:

https://cms.nyu.edu/editor.html/content/nyu-as/as/faculty/sample-faculty-profile.html

With that piece of information, you can now add a link to the faculty profile that will be displayed in your academic unit layout:

  1. Highlight the text you want to be the link.
  2. Click on Hyperlink icon (Chain) on the Edit bar
  3. In the Path field, copy and paste the following internal path to the academic unit plus the faculty profile path. For example:
    • For Department: /content/nyu-as/as/departments/YOUR-ACADEMIC-UNIT/people.sample-faculty-profile.html
    • For Center, International Houses, or Research Center: /content/nyu-as/as/research-centers/YOUR_ACADEMIC-UNIT/people.sample-faculty-profile.html

If you're not sure which path you should, please contact us and we will be able to provide you with the correct path to use.

Troubleshooting

The link does not show up.
If the link you created appears in black with a red bracket instead of a gray color, that means the link is incorrect and the system is not able to display it. If the link URL is external, make sure the URL starts with "https://". If the link URL is internal, make sure the path is correct. As a reminder, we strongly encourage users to utilize the Path Picker when linking to an internal page. AEM will be able to store the referenced link and will be able to auto-adjust the link in the future if the linked page is moved to a different location.
