Osman Umurhan, who completed his PhD at NYU in 2008, and is now Assistant Professor of Classics at the University of New Mexico, has just published his first book with the Routledge Press: Juvenal’s Global Awareness: Circulation, Connectivity, and Empire. Osman’s book applies theories of globalization to an investigation of Juvenal’s articulation and understanding of empire, imperialism and identity so as to explain how the increased interconnectivity between different localities, both ethnic and political, shapes Juvenal’s view of Rome as in constant flux and motion.
