The Tinker Field Research grant program provides funding to individuals for travel and field-related expenses for brief periods of field research in Latin America, defined here as the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries of the region. The master's, doctoral, and professional school students conducting preliminary fieldwork in Latin America, to establish professional and academic contacts, assess research sites, and refine their projects. Grants support brief research trips, ranging from two weeks to four months in duration. M.A. candidates may conduct research for their master’s theses or Master’s Projects. Ph.D. students may carry out preliminary research for dissertations, but this award is not intended for advanced dissertation research.
