There are many atoms in the periodic table besides carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen that play critical roles in the chemistry of life processes, catalysis, and many other aspects of technology. Departmental faculty are very interested in uncovering bioinorganic chemistry of metal ions and their role in human health and disease. Other faculty are discovering new organometallic reactions and catalysts that may lead to new sustainable processes for pharmaceutical production.
