Background on Equity Studies
In Fall, 2000, the Arts & Science Policy and Planning Advisory Committee charged a sub-committee comprised of representatives from P&P and the Women's Faculty Caucus to examine the issue of gender equity for Arts & Science faculty. The members of that sub-committee did an enormous amount of work on this important issue. In addition to piloting a study by an external consultant, the work of this sub-committee resulted in the development of a faculty database that allows Arts & Science Institutional Research and Information Systems to track important indicators such as hiring, promotion, and salaries. After the initial report was submitted in 2002, the Policy and Planning Advisory Committee recommended that every two or three years a new study be mounted to look at gender equity issues. As such, five subsequent reports have been completed. For the most recent report, membership of the subcommittee was increased to include representatives from the Arts & Science Continuing (Contract) Faculty.
An additional study was commissioned by the sub-committee in Academic Year 2011-2012 to measure the quality of institutional and professional worklife of the Arts & Science faculty.
