Intermediate Quechua II

SPAN-UA 84 Prerequisite: Intermediate Quechua I (SPAN-UA 83) or permission of the instructor. 4 points. Quechua is the most importante and most widely distributed indigenous language in South America. We have carefully designed the courses to emphasize the learning of Quechua in context. Therefore, the formal and linguistic features are presented within a communicative approach that integrates the study of language and culture. In Beginners Quechua I and II, language explanations focus largely on grammatical configurations. In Intermediate Quechua (I and II), cultural concepts are an indispensible part of study because these concepts are expressed through specific grammatical constructions of the language. As regards the teaching and learning methodology in practice with students, the courses offer a combination of creative acquisition and communication strategies that involve listening, speaking, writing and reading. These skills are developed through integrative activities including oral presentations, the use of audiovisual resources (for example music and film), written compositions and role-play exercises.
