“I've never been any good at math.” “I'm scared of anything to do with numbers.” “I just don't see any use for math in my life.”
When I started teaching statistics, I heard these comments, and many more just like them. This made me determined to find the best ways to teach students both the importance and techniques of statistical reasoning. So many math phobic students, afraid to take statistics, are pleasantly surprised when they realize that they, too, can understand and perform statistical testing.
I also enjoy demonstrating to my students the applicability of science and statistical reasoning to the “real world”. My background in the science of visual perception and experimental methodology was readily utilized when I worked in the corporate world designing and running vision experiments.
