Are we ready for LSST?
Identified as a national scientific priority by the decadal survey and many other scientific panels, the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope 10-year survey about to begin may address some of the most pressing open questions in astronomy and fundamental physics. Furthermore, continuing a tradition as old as science itself, this astronomical experiment may represent a milestone in science, data-science and data-driven scientific inference. Are we ready? As the LSST Science Collaborations Coordinator, and chair of the Transient and Variable Stars Science Collaboration, I will review the current state of LSST, and the describe the opportunities for scientists to get involved and contribute to making this a truly revolutionary adventure.
