A member of the Committee on the Status and Future of the Profession, American Philosophical Association; Executive Board, The Center for Philosophical Education; and Committee on Research Universities, Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences. Served as the Executive Dean of Arts and Sciences, Dean of the Graduate School, and Chair of the Department of Philosophy at Rutgers University. Earlier, he chaired the Philosophy Department at the University of Notre Dame.
