Payroll appointments go through a stringent review process to insure that submissions are appropriate and comply with federal employment laws. An academic appointment, for example, generally requires four to six weeks to process from the time it reaches the FAS Payroll Office. The deadlines set by University Offices can be up to one month prior to an initial payment. Although this may seem like a substantial amount of time, one must keep in mind that these offices are responsible for making sure that appointments and the supporting documents (like I-9s and other payroll related forms) of the entire university are legally sound while also meeting the deadlines of University Payroll.
