FAS/CIT Standard Workstation Recommendations
The following are the current FAS/CIT recommended configurations for
workstations. The machine configurations are based on the NYU standards
for computers. Last Updated 9/10/2009.
Replacement/New machines may be choosen from the Standard PC
Workstation, Standard PC Laptop, Standard Mac Workstation, or Standard
Mac Laptop. Any upgrades beyond the standard configurations must be paid with departmental or research funds.
Standard PC
Workstation - $683
This workstation is intended for the PC user.
- Dell Optiplex 760 MiniTower with Core 2 Duo E8400 Processor 3.0GHz, 6M
Cache, Integrated Gigabit NIC, 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3450 Video and Integrated Sound.
- 4GB RAM, 250GB
SATA Hard Drive, No Floppy Drive, 16X DVD+/-RW with Roxio Creator.
- 17" Flat Panel Monitor
1708FP, Internal Speaker. (Faculty get 20" wide screen monitors)
- Windows XP Professional
with NTFS.

Professional installed separately by FAS/CIT support providers, as
appropriate under license agreement.
PC Laptop - $924
This workstation is intended for typical laptop users.

2 Duo P8400 Processor 2.4GHz.
- 2GB RAM, 160GB Hard Drive, 8X
DVD+/-RW, floppy drive.
- Internal 56KB Modem,
Integrated Network Card, and Wireless 802.11b/g card.
- 14.1" Widescreen UltraSharp WXGA
Display.
- Windows XP Professional with NTFS .
- Microsoft Office 2007
Professional installed separately by FAS/CIT support providers, as
appropriate under license agreement.
Standard Apple
Workstation - New (Metallic) iMac - $1,218
This workstation is intended for the Macintosh user.

New faculty and staff machines and FAS funded replacement machines are provided with a HP Laserjet P1006 printer
standard as shown below. An upgrade to the printer is available if
department or research funds are used to pay for the difference. The
standard printer configuration is given below:
