FAS/CIT Standard Workstation Recommendations

The following are the current FAS/CIT recommended configurations for workstations.  The machine configurations are based on the NYU standards for computers.  Last Updated 06/10/2011. 

Replacement/New machines may be chosen from the Standard PC Workstation, Standard PC Laptop, Standard Mac Workstation, or Standard Mac Laptop. Any upgrades beyond the standard configurations must be paid with departmental or research funds.

Standard PC Workstation - $740

This workstation is intended for the PC user.

• Dell Optiplex 390 Mini-Tower (optional Small Form Factor) with Core i3 2100 Processor 3.1GHz, 3M Cache, Integrated Gigabit NIC, 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3450 (2 DVI/1 TV out) and Integrated Sound.
• 4GB 1333MHz RAM, 250GB SATA Hard Drive, Internal Speakers, No Floppy Drive, 16X DVD+/-RW with Roxio Creator.
• 20" Widescreen flat panel Monitor P2011H.
• Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
• 4 year warranty
• Microsoft Office 2010 Professional installed separately by FAS/CIT support providers, as appropriate under license agreement (Select licensing allows installation on one desktop and one laptop per individual).

PC Laptop - $1047

This workstation is intended for typical laptop users.

• Dell Latitude E6420 with Core i5-2520M Processor 2.4GHz.
• 4GB RAM, 250GB Hard Drive, 8X DVD+/-RW.
• Built-in camera and microphone.
• Internal 56KB Modem, Integrated Network Card, and Wireless 802.11b/g/n card.
• 14.1" HD Display.
• Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
• Microsoft Office 2010 Professional installed separately by FAS/CIT support providers, as appropriate under license agreement (Select licensing allows installation on one desktop and one laptop per individual).

Standard Apple Workstation – Early 2011 (Metallic) iMac - $1,268

This workstation is intended for the Macintosh user.

• iMac with Intel Quad-Core i5 2.5GHz processor, integrated iSight, sound and NIC.
• 4GB 1333MHz RAM, 500GB Hard Drive, Superdrive DVD+/-R DL/DVD+/-RW/CD-RW, ATI Radeon HD 6750 (512MB of GDDR3 memory) video card.
• 21.5" Display, Airport Extreme 802.11n, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR.
• 1 Thunderbolt port, 1 FireWire 800 port, 4 USB 2.0 ports, SD card slot, Mini DisplayPort output.

Apple Laptop – MacBook Pro 13" - $1,232

• 4GB 1333MHz RAM, 320GB Hard Drive, 8X DVD+/-RW, Intel HD 3000 (384MB shared) graphics.
• 13.3" LED-backlit glossy widescreen Display, no modem, Airport Extreme, Bluetooth.
• 1 Thunderbolt, 1 Firewire 800, 2 USB ports,
• MacOS 10.7, AppleCare three-year protection plan.

Faculty and staff printers are replaced on an as-needed basis, with a new one provided for new faculty.  An upgrade to the printer is available if department or research funds are used to pay for the difference.  The standard printer configuration is given below:
