8.0 Affirmative Action
8.1 INTRODUCTION
Key to the Affirmative Action Recruitment Report
Affirmative Action Recruitment is a mandatory process for all new full-time faculty positions at NYU including tenure and tenure track faculty, Visiting Professors, Instructors, Language Lectures, Faculty fellows and Clinical Professors. It is not possible to appoint anyone to a full-time faculty position who has not been approved by the Vice President for Equal Employment Opportunity.
In addition to the University requirements for Affirmative Action Recruitment, FAS has employed an additional step in the recruitment process to ensure all EEO requirements are met.
The additional step in the recruitment process is the "Preliminary Data on Faculty Candidate Pool" form. This form, along with the c.v.'s of the finalists selected to be interviewed, should be forwarded to the appropriate Divisional Dean for approval of candidate visits and scheduling of meetings with the Dean.
A cover letter must accompany the form providing a description of the search, cost estimates for visits and whether any of the finalists are women or members of underrepresented minority groups. If women or minority groups are not sufficiently represented, the letter should indicate the circumstances that resulted in the final pool of candidates. Candidate visits will not be authorized until this information is forwarded to the Dean.
When a finalist is selected, the next step in the recruitment process is the completion of the Affirmative Action Recruitment Report (AARR). The AARR must be submitted to the Office of the Associate Dean and then approved by the Vice President for Equal Employment Opportunity before an offer letter can be sent or verbal commitment made to the candidate. The FAS Office of the Associate Dean will notify the department when the AARR has been approved.
Again, it is important to emphasize that the AARR must be completed for all new full-time faculty positions, including Instructors and Visiting Professors.
Please forward any questions regarding these procedures to Jonathan Lipman, Associate Dean at (212) 998-8018.
