July 21, 2017 - DUBLIN
NYU Summer in Dublin had the pleasure of meeting President Michael D. Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin last week. The picture above was taken after a brief tour and refreshments with the President. Students expressed that the experience was more than memorable and appreciated all that NYU Summer in Dublin had to offer.
When asked about the experience students responded:
"It was an honor to go to Áras an Uachtaráin. The people we met there could not have been more friendly, and it was incredible to be so welcomed in the home of the President of Ireland. It was amazing to stand in the same rooms that are usually used for frequent events and meetings with world leaders. The most exciting part was meeting–and taking pictures with–President Michael D. Higgins himself! The entire experience was one of many highlights of the Summer in Dublin program."

"Getting to meet President Higgins in his home was such an honor. It really highlights one of the best parts of the NYU in Dublin program—you get to meet everyone, from the local bartender to the President of Ireland."
-Hannah Foley
"Our visit to the President’s house was delightful in that we enjoyed delicious tea and sweets, but more importantly it reminded us of post-colonial Ireland’s identity struggle and the nation’s enduring hardships met with equally enduring tenacity. Meeting the President himself made the event unforgettable!"
