The faculty of the Irish and Irish-American Studies Program at NYU are distinguished by a broad concern with the study of the Irish in America. NYU Libraries is home to the Archives of Irish America, a unique repository of primary resource materials that complements the many other archives available in New York City. Students within the MA Program have completed theses on Irish communities in 19th and 20th century New York City, on the history of Irish music performance in the Catskills, and on race and Irish identity.
Students who wish to be considered for a Scholarship in Irish-American Studies should complete the application form and should use the essay question to state how they would take advantage of faculty expertise and course offerings. Which topics do you hope to research? How has previous study prepared you for more advanced work? Are there particular historical problems to which you are drawn?
